French Toast

Classic French Toast Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of bread (preferably slightly stale or thick-cut like brioche or challah)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk (whole milk or a dairy-free alternative)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional, for a sweeter batter)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter or oil for frying
  • Maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruits for topping

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Batter

  1. In a shallow bowl or pie dish, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, sugar (if using), and salt until fully combined.

2. Soak the Bread

  1. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a pat of butter or a drizzle of oil.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well coated but not overly saturated.

3. Cook the French Toast

  1. Place the soaked bread slices onto the preheated skillet.
  2. Cook for 2–3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and slightly crisp.

4. Serve

  1. Transfer the French toast to a plate.
  2. Top with your favorite toppings, such as maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh fruits, whipped cream, or a dollop of yogurt.

Tips for the Best French Toast:

  • Use day-old or slightly stale bread for better texture and to prevent sogginess.
  • Experiment with flavored extracts like almond or orange for unique variations.
  • For a richer batter, substitute cream or half-and-half for the milk.
